Every Moment of a Book: Three Decades of Work by Julie Chen is the exhibition on display in Special Collections, Allen Library, University of Washington Libraries from February 20-June 30, 2017. The exhibit is a 30-year retrospective of one of the most significant and influential book artists in the field and contains all of the artist’s book work. The exhibit celebrates the donation of the first part of Chen’s Flying Fish Press archive to the University Libraries and contains many manuscripts, models, press sheets, polymer plates and binding prototypes. The exhibit is curated by Sandra Kroupa, Book Arts & Rare Book Curator in Special Collections, who has been collecting the artist’s work for 25 years.On Thursday March 16, 2017, Julie will give a presentation about her work at the University of Washington at 7:00 pm in the Petersen Room, Allen Library, 4th Floor. The talk will be followed by a reception in Special Collections, Allen Library Basement and a walk through the exhibit with the artist and curator. This event is open to the public and free. The exhibition catalog, Reading the Object: Three Decades of Books by Julie Chen will be available for purchase after the presentation on March 16. Intersections of Art and Life: A Conversation between Julie Chen and Lois Morrison, moderated by Sandra Kroupa will be held at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art on Saturday March 18, 2017 at 3:30pm with a reception following.
