2020-21 BLACK & INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S RESIDENCY

Seattle Print Arts in partnership with Editions Studio is offering three 1-year residencies, which will provide access for Black and Indigenous artists to create artists’ books, broadsides, posters, and other works on paper at Editions in Seattle, WA.This residency aims to assist underrepresented artists and provide participants with the tools, connections, and support to develop and enhance skills needed to further artistic and professional development. Editions and Seattle Print Arts believe in the radical power of print, and selected artists will be equipped with new ways to contribute to their communities, broader artistic and printmaking communities, and the greater cultural vitality of the region.
Applications are due December 4th, 2020. Applicants will be notified about selection decisions by December 16th. The residency begins January 1st, 2021.

BENEFITS FOR ARTISTS:
This residency will culminate in a show at Editions and…
Artists will have dedicated table space with storage underneath and 2 flat file drawers.
Artists will receive a $750 stipend from Seattle Print Arts.
Artists will have access to a book arts mentor chosen by them from a list of available mentors for up to 6 hours, spread throughout the year.
Artists will receive a one-year Seattle Print Arts membership.
EXPECTATIONS FOR ARTISTS:
Artists will produce a small body of work that falls under the Book Arts umbrella to be featured in a show at the end of their residency.
Artists will produce 2 mini broadsides each for Editions’ Poems in the Mail project.

We offer support to assist you with your application for the Editions 2020 Black and Indigenous People’s Residency.
Email spaboard@seattleprintarts.org with your application included (most formats acceptable) by Friday, November 13th. Your application will be reviewed by a Seattle Print Arts board member or advisory board member (not on the selection committee) with feedback by Monday, November 23rd. Your final application must be submitted via https://www.editions.studio/2020-bipoc-residency-applications by the final deadline, December 4th, to officially apply for the residency.

Seattle Print Arts is partnering with Compass Housing Alliance to provide printable activities for youth.

With King County schools out of session, Compass Housing Alliance is looking for fun and creative activities for the children in their buildings. Seattle Print Arts is collecting drawings, prints, digital designs, etc that will be used as art activity sheets for children at eight different Compass program sites. Submitting artists will each receive $50 for submitted work, up $100.
If you submitted work before July 15, 2020, you may submit up to two additional designs below and be compensated, for new and previously submitted designs for a total of $100.
Hand drawn designs or fine art prints can be photographed or scanned and submitted as jpegs. Digitally rendered designs also accepted. Please email spaboard@seattleprintarts if you need assistance or have questions.
Desired designs include the following: coloring pages intended for youth, aged 6-13; connect the dots to complete the image activities; and maze worksheets
Image file size: 7.5 x 10 inches, saved to around 200 dpi (Images will be printed directly from a standard printer)
Black and white
Designs should be appropriate for youth of all genders, sexuality, religion, socio-economic status, race, physical, and intellectual abilities
Include your name and website or social media handle on the design for credit

2020-2021 PRATT/SEATTLE PRINT ARTS PARTNERS GRANT

APPLY THROUGH JUNE 21, 2020
In partnership with Pratt Fine Arts Center, and to nurture the development of our shared artist community, Seattle Print Arts and Pratt are pleased to offer an enhanced funding grant in printmaking (formerly known as the Seattle Print Arts Scholarship). This grant is specifically for Puget Sound printmakers who are members of Seattle Print Arts.
GRANT AWARD: The Pratt/SPA Partners Grant, a $1000 award, is to be applied towards printmaking classes and workshops, and supply fees at Pratt Fine Arts Center. $750 will be distributed directly to the recipient. In addition to the financial award, the recipient will also receive:
One-year SPA membership renewal
One-year Master Level membership at Pratt Fine Arts Center
Access to Pratt’s printmaking studio for the duration of the award year, this runs September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021.* (Worth 12 x $150 =$1800)

2020 MEMBERS PRINT EXCHANGE
This call is now closed.
EXHIBITION and EXCHANGE PICK-UP: All the prints will be exhibited during the Seattle Print Arts Annual Meeting, dates to be determined due to Covid-19. Exchange participants will be able to pick up their exchange portfolios at that time. If you cannot be there, please make arrangements for a friend to pick up your portfolio.
2020-21 LARRY SOMMERS FELLOWSHIP

This fellowship exists to honor Larry Sommers (1953-2009), a founding member of Seattle Print Arts, known for his irreverent political prints, who was also owner and operator of Inky Dink Press. Larry was a wonderful mentor, charismatic teacher and Instructional Technician at the University of Washington, and huge part of the Seattle arts community.
The purpose of this fellowship is to support artistic excellence in the areas of print arts, book arts and works on, or of, paper. The award will provide a stipend of $2,000 to produce new work or to support a project in progress. This fellowship is open to artists residing in the Pacific Northwest who are current members of Seattle Print Arts. Current members of the Seattle Print Arts Board are not eligible to apply for this, or any scholarship.
The selected artist will be determined by the artistic excellence of the work presented in the application, juried by a panel of arts professionals. The first $1,000 will be awarded when the artist is selected. The remaining $1,000 will be awarded after the artist's presentation. In addition to the monetary award, the chosen artist will receive a one-year Seattle Print Arts membership.
The selected artist, or artist team, is required to present a talk about their work, at our Annual Meeting, to the Seattle Print Arts membership. If travel to the annual meeting in Seattle is not possible, the artist must provide a recorded video presentation prior to the event.

Davidson Galleries and Seattle Print Arts are pleased to present the exhibition, Contemporary Northwest Print Invitational 2020, during the month of August. This exhibition will feature the best work of contemporary Pacific Northwest Print Artists and be co-curated by Thea Quiray Tagle and Sam Davidson. Opening reception is First Thursday, August 6th.
The deadline to submit work is May 25th.
