Black and Indigenous Peoples  Residency at Editions Studio

Seattle Print Arts in partnership with Editions Studio is offering 3 year-long residencies, which will provide access for Black and Indigenous artists to create artists’ books, broadsides, posters, and other works on paper at Editions in Seattle, WA.

This residency aims to assist underrepresented artists and provide participants with the tools, connections, and support to develop and enhance skills needed to further artistic and professional development.  Editions and Seattle Print Arts believe in the radical power of print, and selected artists will be equipped with new ways to contribute to their communities, broader artistic and printmaking communities, and the greater cultural vitality of the region.

Larry Sommers Fellowship

This fellowship exists to honor Larry Sommers (1953-2009), a founding member of Seattle Print Arts, known for his irreverent political prints, was also owner and operator of Inky Dink Press. Larry was a wonderful mentor, charismatic teacher and Instructional Technician at the University of Washington, and huge part of the Seattle arts community.The purpose of this fellowship is to support artistic excellence in the areas of print arts, book arts and works on, or of, paper. The award will provide a stipend of $2,000 to produce new work or to support a project in progress. This fellowship is open to artists residing in the Pacific Northwest.

Pratt/SPA Partners Grant

Grant Award: The Pratt/SPA Partners Grant, a $1000 award, is to be applied towards printmaking classes and workshops, and supply fees at Pratt Fine Arts Center. $250 will be distributed directly to the recipient for purchasing materials and supplies. In addition to the financial award, the recipient will also receive: 

·         One-year SPA membership renewal

·         One-year Master Level membership at Pratt Fine Arts Center

·         Access to Pratt’s printmaking studio for the duration of the award year, (Worth 12 x $150 =$1800)

Eligibility: The Pratt/SPA Partners Grant is open to printmakers of all levels, aged 18 years and older, who are active members of SPA and who wish to refine their skills or pursue new or experimental directions in their discipline. Previous involvement or prerequisite classes at Pratt are not required. Board, advisory board, and staff members of Pratt Fine Arts Center and SPA, as well as Pratt instructors, are not eligible to apply.

Application Evaluation: The Pratt/SPA Partners Grant will be awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates artistic merit, as well as articulates his/her creative intent and anticipated educational impact of the prize. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of Pratt staff and SPA board members, and other arts professionals with expertise in the field of printmaking

DEADLINE: APPLICATIONS ARE DUE JUNE 6, 2019

A winner will be announced in July, and the award year begins September 1, 2019

Seattle Print Arts Biennial Print Exchange

Seattle Print Arts Print offers a biennial print exchange which is open to all members of Seattle Print Arts.

For the print exchange each artist submits 12 prints and receives 10 randomly selected prints from the submitted entries in return. Two of the prints in each edition will be retained and owned by Seattle Print Arts for the archival collection.  One of which will be shown in an exhibition in a venue in Seattle
